Affiliate Tip Monday – Increasing Your Website Traffic

0

I wanted to continue with the “Poker Affiliate Tip Monday” series this week, and I’ve had a lot of feedback and requests for some topics. So thanks to everyone reading and giving us ideas. This week, we are going to go over some simple ways to increase your poker affiliate website traffic. This is a super important part of your overall plan to make money, without visitors/traffic, you just can’t make money.

First, let’s throw a common myth out the window. One common myth I hear is: You need XXX Visitors a day to make money. This is simply not true and silly if you think about it. If your website only gets one visitor, and that visitor converts into a real money player, then you have made money. Sort of a dumb example but you get what I’m sayin’. Sure, the affiliate market can be a volume game. If you are optimizing your Calls To Action’s based on what you are seeing in your analytics, then you should be seeing a nice conversion rate regardless of the amount of traffic. Keep in mind EVERY visitor is a potential customer walking through the door.

Tips To Increase Your Website Traffic

Ok, so back to the main topic of increasing your website traffic. Of course the easy answer is always “add more content” – We all know that is the key to having a good website, but we need to take it a step further and make sure we are adding content that means something. If you have a typical Poker Website you probably already have sections covering:

  • Poker Room Reviews
  • Poker Strategy
  • Promotions
  • Poker News

Using analytics to increase your traffic

That is the usual stuff everyone has, I’m sure you can think of more I’m leaving off, but again every website has these things. I’ll even go a step further and say every site should* have these sections. These sections don’t usually provide great value to your site, and probably won’t make you much money. The thing is, by having 40-50 pages of this type of content (which I call common content) is that you will end up ranking for random Long Tail phrases that you didn’t intend to rank for.

For example: You have a Party Poker Review page which is 750 words – Chances are if you have a new site, you are not going to rank well for Party Poker Review. But with 750 words on that Party Poker Page, you may end up ranking for other info on that page. Maybe you have a section explaining how the Party Poker bonus is cleared, or some other random snippet of info found on that page. Obviously your intention wasn’t to rank for “Clearing a Party Bonus” (or w/e random LT you see) – But don’t ignore the fact that you did get some traffic for that phrase. Remember: Traffic = $$$$$

Here are some examples I see by looking through my Woopra Live Stats: Note these are all real phrases I see from today

  • What is Bum Hunting
  • How Do I stop Running Bad at Poker
  • HU 3betting ranges on Cake Poker
  • When to leave a cash game
  • How do I calculate variance in a cash game
  • 6max and HU SNG tips on Pokerstars

Use your analytics to create content

So by looking at the short list above, you can see there is a lot of potential content that can be created around those long tail terms. you can write an entire article on “Bum Hunting” – Top 10 bum Hunting Tips or “Guide to Bumhunting” – We can easily make a “Top 10 Tips to stop running bad” – Or an article on “Knowing When to quit a good game” – The possibilities are endless. By checking out your stats and finding these search phrases, you can easily generate new content which will without a doubt drive new visitors to your site. The best part is these are the types of articles you don’t see on a million other poker sites. So you will actually be offering something of value.

Other Ways to increase your poker website traffic

A few other easy ways to come up with content ideas is to check out large poker communities like the 2+2 Beginners Forum. Now I’,m not a huge fan of 2+2 mainly because the signal to noise ratio sucks. that being said, it is a very large community and that means lots question being asked on the forums. Some threads I see right now are:

  • Winrates at various games
Screen Name – what to choose
How do you study the game

As you can see, this is a great place to look and come up with new article ideas. The best part is since its being asked on the forums, you know people want/need this information. So its a gold mine.

So, these are just a few ways I come up with new content ideas for my website. Adding new content increases my traffic, and more traffic means more money. I’d love to hear ways you use to drive new traffic to your site, and ways to come up with new content ideas.
