I wanted to write a follow up to our last article on Affiliate Money Making Tips, and all too often we focus on the big search engines; Google, Bing, Yahoo that we tend to forget that we are “Internet Marketers First” and “SEO’s” second. I am a regular on the Poker Affiliate Listings Forum owned by my good friend Jeremy Enke, and at least once a day a Poker Affiliate posts wanting to know why he is getting 100 visits a day, but not making money and often times not getting signups. This is a common issue and one where SEO will not help much. Obviously if you already have traffic, SEO is not your problem. The common issues for lack of conversions are:
Note: This is the first in a series of articles which cover some very simple tips which will help you expand your affiliate business, increase conversions, and enhance your exposure in the major search engines. If you have any questions or want some specific areas covered, pelase let us know in the comment seciton. Poker SEO skills is a must have for any webmaster, and as with anything, practice makes perfect
Well it’s a new year and a new decade and so far 2010 has started off awesome! This might be the best time to become a serious poker affiliate because online poker continues to get bigger and bigger! As most of you know, I am a frequent poster and mod over at Poker Affiliate Listings and if it wasn’t for the “PAL” forums, I know I would not be where I am today. Having a resource like this to read through and posts questions is wonderful for new webmasters.
Background
I’m very excited to announce that we have now launched our Live Poker SEO Radio Show which is also available for podcast download and Itunes! We had our first show last night with a very special guest “Michael Martinez” of SEO Theory - Michael is well known in the SEO and SEM industry and last night he covered all the new Google Changes in regards to “Personalized Search” and “Live search“. Both of these issues have a far reaching impact on the world of search marketing, and thankfully Michael was there to explain it in a way everyone can understand.
Although the main focus of this website is of course Poker SEO, Optimizing for search engines is just one of the many ways to make money in the online gaming market. One of the most often overlooked aspects of business is ensuring you get the best deal possible with the poker room, casino, or any other marketing partnership you are engaging in. Throughout this article the word “Partnership” will take on a whole new meaning because that is actually what you will be negotiating, your “Partnership” terms.
When I first started out in poker affiliating, I was just like every other beginner – I had no idea how to make a website, I had no idea how to interpret html, and I had no idea how to SEO my site. Most importantly, I had no idea what to even make my site about. After mulling over some potential topics like poker for college players and a regional poker website, my partner (JeremyM) and I finally settled on creating a site all about poker sit and go’s.
The title may be deceiving because the actual “Top 20 Poker SEO Tips” is a matter of opinion, so the best I can do is give the first 20 that come to mind when I am planning or working in a websites. The great thing about Poker SEO and Search optimization in general is that it is never too late to fix mistakes. Also, the more you practice the better you will get. Take a look at your very first website, and the website you build last and I bet you were able to use your experience to avoid many common mistakes you made when you first started out.

I’ve been getting a ton of topic requests and first off I want to thank everyone for reading and supporting this site. There is literally tons of topics relating to poker websites and “Making Money with Poker Websites” that need to be covered. The point of Poker SEO is to get your website ranking in a competitive position to get “Valuable” traffic that will convert. This seems like a very simple concept but my guess would be 95% or more web masters fail at no only ranking well, but ranking well for terms that will make you money.
I decided I better get a new post up on this site, life has been good to me and I’ve had a great vacation but now it is time to get back to work! Really a vacation for me is working 10 hours a day instead of 18, but it felt great to cut down some. I did launch a great new site which is still under construction called Online Poker Rakeback. Anyway, let’s get down to business and chat about a subject I’ve has quite a few requests to cover; Checking Stats and Expanding You Website
